Just over a week ago, it was reported that Sony would start pre-loading Google Chrome as the default browser on all new Vaios shipping in the US.
MediaPost covered the story and its implications on the search space. I shared my POV in the article and will expand on it a bit here after the excerpt...

Could Sony's deal influence the search engine wars? Aaron Goldman, founder and managing partner at Connectual, says "Yes, absolutely."
If Chrome is the default browser, Google will likely …

Google recently announced that it's opening up the Content Network to "qualified third-party vendors" (read: networks and exchanges). Laurie Sullivan at MediaPost breaks down the news and includes this little bit of tid from yours truly...
"Opening the network would also give advertisers 'more eyeballs' and a better shot at reaching select consumers, such as 'one-arm pet lovers.' There's maybe a few thousand of those …

Things That Make You Go Hmmm...

If you read my Search Insider column today, you know I've been on a Top Ten list kick of late. You can also imagine what a dolt I felt like publishing the "Top Ten Ways to Use Search Data Beyond SEM" on the same day the Yahoo Microsoft search deal was announced. Give me a break though, my deadline was yesterday at noon! Today Yahoo announced that Q2 earnings were up slightly year-over-year but revenue was down (as was the stock in after-hours trading) leading to a reprise of speculation over a potential search deal with Microsoft.
MediaPost has a good roundup of opinions, including mine, on what the deal might look like and what it would mean for the marketplace.
Here's what I went on record with. More commentary after the break...

Aaron Goldman, managing partner at advertising rep firm Connectual, thinks the "deal is inevitable."

What the Bing Launch Means for Marketers
Thursday, July 2, 2009 | Posted by Aaron Goldman
I'm quoted in today's MediaPost Online Media Daily commenting on the implications of recent data showing gains in search market share for Bing. I'd like to give some additional context for my POV and expand on it a bit.
The article starts off with, "Microsoft's new search engine Bing continues to take share from Google, Yahoo and Ask, albeit small. In June, Google shows a .3% drop, Yahoo a .17% drop, and Ask a .1% drop in usage share, according to NetApplications, a research firm."
My input comes …

Once a Search Guy, Always a Search Guy
Tuesday, June 2, 2009 | Posted by Aaron Goldman
Now I know how John Battelle feels. He wrote the book on search and forever became the expert on all things Google. Even these days, with John at the helm of conversational marketing firm, Federated Media, he still gets called to comment anytime Google sneezes.
So too, have I been branded a Search Insider for life. Like John, I don't mind it one bit, though. As the saying goes, "Call me what you like, just call me."
Truth is, I'm still quite smitten by search despite the …
