Cuz A Connectual Doesn't Stop... 'Til Everyone's Acquainted!
Tuesday, August 10, 2010 | Posted by Aaron Goldman
Last Thursday, TalentFoot, Elevation+, Vevo, and Connectual broke in our new Chicago office with a little soiree. Here's a quick recap along with all the SFW pics...

DJ Carpenter queued up the party mix.

Camille tried to block out the party mix and squeeze in one last business call.

Mark tested all the appetizers to make sure they weren't poisonous. The garden veggie dip was a little questionable so we tossed it.

The referral board was …

And, Yes, the Curtains Match the Drapes!
Monday, June 14, 2010 | Posted by Aaron Goldman
On June 1st, Connectual opened its first office at 220 W. Huron Suite 3002 in the River North area of Chicago. The idea is to create a hub for digital marketeers to network, brainstorm, and generally plot to take over the world. The space has 6 individual offices, 2 conference rooms, kitchenette, bathroom and a nice big main room with 4 desks, a couch, and a closet. Plenty of room to get Connectual!
Each of the individual offices are being sub-leased to like-minded entrepreneurial types in the digital space. Currently the inhabitants of this microcosm of the digital marketing ecosystem include …

FAQ #15
Friday, April 2, 2010 | Posted by Aaron Goldman

Now that I've finished my book manuscript -- check out GoogleyLessons.com for more details on that project -- I can get back to more regular posting.
Let's start by addressing a question I've been getting a lot lately...
Why doesn't Connectual charge an hourly rate for consulting services?
To answer this question, I'd like to relay a story that Tom Kuthy, formerly of Resolution Media, shared with me in the context of negotiating agency fees with a client during a new business pitch.
Some fifty …

Chicago's Young Entreprenuers Feature
Wednesday, July 22, 2009 | Posted by Aaron Goldman
Connectual is highlighted in the Examiner today under the Chicago Young Entreprenuers feature. The interview covers a lot of ground -- kudos to Lauren Young for asking some good thought-starters -- including how I came up with the name Connectual (which suprisingly never came up in my FAQ series), my biggest challenges to-date, and advice for other would-be entreprenuers.
Here's the full story...

What the Company Does in Under 140 Characters
Thursday, June 18, 2009 | Posted by Aaron Goldman
The elevator pitch is dead. Long live the Twitter pitch!
I was inspired by a recent tweet from @ginidietrich that was retweeted by @LenKendall and asked, "Can you describe what your company does in under 140 characters?" The reference was to a recent BusinessWeek column by Carmine Gallo expounding the virtue, "Sell More by Saying Less."
The KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) principle is really something I take to heart. My colleague Tom Kuthy, VP of Marketing and Business Development at Resolution Media, is a champion of clear …

FAQ #14
Monday, June 8, 2009 | Posted by Aaron Goldman
Since launching Connectual nearly two months ago, I've spent almost all-day every day meeting with a wide range of marketers and digital marketing companies. Having served the past five years primarily as the Omnicom search guy, it was important for me to "reacclimate to the wild" and get my fingers on the pulse of pressing client needs and the latest and greatest platforms delivering against them.
Sure, I'd been exposed to all the non-search digital marketing channels during my tenure with Resolution Media but only as an agency partner or trade-mag reader and conference attendee. …

And Bird's the Word
Wednesday, May 20, 2009 | Posted by Aaron Goldman
Yesterday I launched a tag cloud for Testimonials created by the crack team at Elevate Studios. This idea was the brainchild of Dan Kuthy of Snuggie Pub Crawl and Blue Chip SEO fame. He pointed out that the old way the testimonials were laid out was a bit clunky to navigate and, frankly, (my words, not his) no-one really cares that much about me to read 100+ LinkedIn recommendations linearly.
Dan has been enamored for some time by TheBirdsTheWord.net -- a nifty little tool …

And Other FAQs
Sunday, April 26, 2009 | Posted by Aaron Goldman
In the two weeks that have passed since the Connectual launch, the one question I've gotten more than any other is, "Why Connectual?"
People want to know why I started the company. And they want to know why I think it'll succeed in its mission to connect the digital marketing ecosystem -- i.e. Why would companies want to work with me? What's the unique selling proposition?
I covered what compelled me to start the company in my recent Search Insider column, "It's Time to Get Connectual." Now it's time lay out what differentiates Connectual and address the …

Connectual, At Your Service
Wednesday, April 15, 2009 | Posted by Aaron Goldman
Yesterday I had lunch with Sam Wehrs from Starcom. As I was describing the Connectual model to him, he made the observation that essentially I'm a digital marketing concierge. As Owen Burke would say, "Nailed It!" In fact, I like that analogy so much I've updated the Connectual digital marketing services for marketers page and now refer to my role as concierge rather than general contractor.
At the end of the day (or beginning of the day, if you're a morning person), a good concierge can size up your needs, preferences, etc. and leverage his or her relationships to get …
